Philip Seymour Hoffman
Philip Seymour Hoffman was born in Fairport,
New York in 1967. In high school he became
very much involved in theater. Directly after high
school he attended New York University's Tisch
School of the Arts and graduated with a B.F.A.
degree in Drama in 1989.

Philip's cinematic debut was in 1991 in the
independent film
Triple Bogey on a Par Five Hole
. Hoffman's first big time Hollywood debut came
in the film
Scent of a Woman as Chris
O'Donnell's backstabbing classmate. This film
really introduced him to Hollywood allowed him
to pursue acting full time. In fact, when he first
got the role he was working in a supermarket.

Philip Seymour Hoffman has been called the
greatest character actor of our time, despite
seldom acting as the lead. Philip is known for his
supporting roles and rarely plays the main
character in a film. Films in which he played a
supporting character include
The Getaway,
When a Man Loves a Woman, Twister, Boogie
Nights
, The Big Lebowski, Patch Adams, The
Talented Mr. Ripley
, Magnolia, Almost Famous,
and many many more. He also stars in the 2006
mega summer release
Mission Impossible 3.

Aside from a successful film career, Hoffman
has also been quite active on stage. He has
earned 2 Tony nominations for his Broadway
roles and has a long list of New York theater
acting credits.

Hoffman starred as the title character in the
2005 film
Capote, based on the life of writer
Truman Capote. For his performance he
recieved the Oscar for Best Actor.
