Jack Johnson is a Hawaiian born
singer-songwriter. Before fully pursuing his
music career, Jack had been a professional
surfer. He was also very interested in
skateboarding. He learned to surf and skate
from family-friend Alex Conwell. Alex also taught
Jack how to play the guitar and the flute.
Jack Johnson first started learning to play guitar
when he was just 14 years old. He had no plans
to pursue a career in music. He was far more
interested in surfing and film. Jack attended the
University of California at Santa Barbara and
graduated with a degree in film.
When Jack was just 17 years old he had a gnarly
surfing accident. In the accident he broke his
nose, knocked out his front teeth and received
more than 150 stitches in his mouth and
forehead. He spent his recovery time practicing
his guitar and music skills.
He learned first hand from the wonderful Ben
Harper and soon after released his first album
Bushfire Fairytales in 2001. Jack then toured for
a couple years and released his second album:
On and On. His third album, In Between
Dreams, came in 2005 and was a huge success.
