Las Vegas is a fairly young city. It officially became a city 1911.
Since then the population has continued to climb and climb. Even
today the Las Vegas region is the fastest growing in all the United
States. Las Vegas is also the largest American city founded in the
20th century.

Las Vegas is the center of gambling in the United States. Las
Vegas has earned the nickname
Sin City because of the popularity
of gambling, availability of alchohol, and various forms of adult
entertainment. Of course the people who live in Las Vegas aren’t
crazy about the nickname. They prefer to call it
The Entertainment
Capital of the World
.

A trip to Las Vegas wouldn’t be complete without visiting a casino.
The downtown area hosts the classic casinos of Las Vegas. There
you can also find the Fremont Street Experience, which is like a
giant shopping mall with casinos, shops, restaurants, and thousands
of lights playing animated scenes on the dome-like ceiling.

Just south of downtown is the Las Vegas Strip. Here you can find
the mega-casino/hotels. These ‘super hotels’ come in a variety of
themes such as treasure island, an Egyptian pyramid, a medieval
castle, and an erupting volcano.

Las Vegas is located in the Mojave Desert, so it typically has hot
summers, mild winters, plenty of sunshine all-year-round, and very
little rainfall. The mountains that surround the area can be seen in a
variety of colors from deep gray to light pink. Las Vegas is just a 4-
hour drive from Los Angeles and an hour away from the Grand
Canyon.
